"Alex was an awesome guide from start to finish of the day tour. Even though we were late for the tour in the morning (entirely our fault) Alex went out of his way to come and pick us all up from where we were staying. He is super friendly, made us all feel very comfortable, his English was flawless, and he was just a good guy to be around and talk to. He made the tour around Transylvania very enjoyable and worth while."

"We started off the day as the first visitors at Rasnov Fortress and had the place all to ourselves. We followed it up by visiting the famous Bran Castle. Those were both great experiences but the best part of the day was when Marian took us into the Carpathian Mountains to see the traditional villages. The scenery was beyond beautiful. It was peaceful and serene and an all around amazing experience. We visited a bat cave and had a traditional lunch at the oldest guest house in Romania with possibly the best cheese we've ever tried.
It is no surprise that Active Travel is #1 with Trip Advisor. We couldn't imagine a more knowledgeable guide and more perfect day than what Marian gave us. He customized the day to what we most wanted to see and to our hiking abilities. We will always remember this incredible experience. We will be back to see the bears, we hope in September, and we will for sure be contacting Active Travel."

"Bran Castle has always been on my list of places to visit, so on our fist visit to Romania wee chose to base our stay in Brasov. We booked our trip to Rasnov & Bran with active travel online. We were met promptly at 8am by Charlie our guide for the day and as it turned out we were his only 2 customers for the trip. We boarded our transport for the day, a spacious well maintained VW transporter and set off for Rasnov. The hilltop fortress wasn’t something we had planned on visiting but I’m glad we did as the views you are rewarded with from the highest point of the citadel are breathtaking. Charlie is very knowledgeable about Romania and being a local he gave us a good in-depth history on the places we visited. After Rasnov we took the short journey onwards to Bran and the Castle, this did not disappoint and again Charlie was able to furnish us with all the history and legends associated with the place.
I would highly recommend this tour guide and the company. Charlie was a superb guide, knowledgeable with a fantastic command of English and above all super friendly, it felt like travelling with a friend. I’m so glad that we booked this tour and only wish we had more time to spend in Romania as I would definitely be booking some of the other tours that they have on offer.

"Did a days with Balazs Karoly Andreas (known as Karoly - Active Travel. Collection point is from the museum in the main square Brasnov 9am (till 6). Karoly takes small groups out which makes the tour more personal. He is a fountain of knowledge and a real people person, putting the group at ease. All 3 places were absolutely astounding for different reasons.
Firstly Peles Castle (royal palace), Brans Castle (Dracula’s) (where all the action happened) and the Fortress (in times of siege for the town of Rasnov) beautiful views. Highly recommend."

"Charlie (tour guide) met us at 9am as promised, outside the History Museum in Brasov. It was just us and 2 other girls - they only book small groups which we really appreciated as it made it much more intimate and easy to interact etc. We started with Peles castle which was stunning - Charlie was an excellent tour guide who spoke fantastic English and gave brilliant history overviews as we walked around. He was also more than happy to take photos of us throughout the day. We then stopped for lunch before going in to Bran Castle. This was a local restaurant with lovely food - Charlie even organized a little surprise birthday cake for me as it was my birthday! We then went on to Bran Castle, and finished with Rasnov Fort. All in all a really wonderful day :)"

"Bran Castle was beautiful and Raznov breath taking. We were 8 Canadians on the trip and each and everyone enjoyed the tour. Our guide did a fantastic job of explaining to us the history of the area, he also gave us extra by showing us a fortified church. We all loved it.

"Our guide was Charlie, he picked us up on time in a mini-bus. There were two other couples in the bus, but this made the journey even more fun. We left Brasov around 9AM and arrived back around 6PM.We started with Peles Castle, then Bran and Rasnov. We stopped at a very nice restaurant and had lunch. The atmosphere through out the journey was great and we had a good laugh too. Charlie was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot from this trip. Glad that we did it, we took lots of photos and discovered new things about beautiful Romania. Highly recommended. Ps. Wear walking shoes or at least comfortable ones, no heels."

We booked two tours,on two different days - Brasov/Peles/Bran/Rasnov and Brasov/Rupea/Viscri/Sighisoara and we were lucky to get Karoly (or Charlie for english speaking tourists) as our guide.I was hoping we would get him because after reading the reviews we were sure that he is the best and indeed he did not disappoint.We found out a lot of interesting facts,he told us stories and he really knew the history of the places.We experienced a nice ride and wonderful places where we had lunch,in addition to the actual attractions.He is a very pleasant,friendly person and he made us feel really comfortable.I wholeheartedly recommend him.Thank you for a wonderful experience!"

"Did you know that bears eat chocolate? If not, then this tour is a MUST! We had an astonishing view at 4 bears, only a few meters from the observation hut. The tour was organized and guided by three very friendly and humorous guides (as well as professional:) ) We totally recommend the Bear Watching trip for everyone. "This was a great option to see all three of these places in one day! Our guide Dan was not only knowledgeable and gave us great tours of all three places showing and telling us things we wouldn’t have seen or learned about without him pointing them out, but he was overall a very nice, personable and interesting person. He also drove us to a couple of extra locations just to show us around and brought us to an amazing local restaurant for lunch, which we really appreciated. It was a 10/10 tour!"

''For those looking for an AMAZING adventure, using a travel company, book through Active Travel. From the start, working with Marian, the owner of Active Travel was easy. I told him what I was interested in seeing in Romania, as well as asking him for suggestions and Marian came up with a phenomenal itinerary!! It was nice to be picked up and dropped off at the airport. My guide was Mihai.. He was EXCEPTIONAL!! He showed me many beautiful castles and churches, as well as taking me on some breathtaking hikes. Mihai was very knowledgeable and organized. He was also very kind and friendly. "My partner and I went to visit Transylvania in April.
We booked 3 tours with Active Travel and couldn't have made a better choice!
Brasov walking tour - our guide Alex gave us a quick history lesson of the country which was really useful especially for us first timers in Romania. We then went inside the Black Church (entrance fee not included) and had a stroll around the city where he showed us the city and gave us suggestions on what we could do after the tour as well (such as going up the Tampa Mountain). Alex, was very friendly and made us feel welcome in the city!
Peles, Bran and Rasnov tour- our guide on this day was Charlie (or Karoly in Romanian), an amazing guide with many years guiding experience. Charlie was extremely knowledgeable not just about arts and traditions but also about food and nature. Admission fees to places were not included but Active Tours gave us free admission to Bran Castle!!! That was a great Easter gift! The day was a full on day, there were many tourist but we managed to skipped the line thanks to Charlie knowing everyone!
Rupea, Viscri and Sighisoara Tour - we had Charlie again. The tour was more relaxed than the castles one as we visited those places with less tourist and more locals. As it was a Monday, the Clock Tower in Sighisoara was closed. We had time to sit down for a lovely Romanian lunch.
The tours are all for small groups and if you are lucky enough you can also be the only client of the day and have the guide for yourself (which we did for two of the tours)!
Admissions to the different historical sites are not included, if you have a student card don't forget to bring it!!! I would definitely love to travel with them again in the future!

"My son and I were fortunate enough to book Active Travel for a private tour. Best decision ever because we truly did get to see the best of the Transylvania region, castles, palaces, fortresses, etc. Active Travel fulfilled all of their promises and provided lovely hotel accommodations in the center of Brasov. We can’t praise our tour guide, Tudor, enough. His knowledge, love of history, pride and enthusiasm for our cultural discovery made this trip unforgettable. We had so much fun with him and laughed so much that it felt like he was another family member. We really appreciated that each time we arrived at a very busy place, Tudor was able to do his magic and get us right in with no wait. It is very apparent that he loves what he does and does not consider it a job, very special in a young person.
Just when we thought our tour could not get any better, Tudor invited us to his family house. Here we were given the tour of his farm and his family fed us with their own livestock and homemade brandy. They were so gracious and hospitable to us and we could see that this fine young man came from such a beautiful loving family. We came away from this trip loving the people of Romania and already discussing our wish to return. Thanks Tudor and Active Travel for making this vacation so wonderful."

"This excursion is probably one of tje best things to do if you are in the area, you have to be patient if you want to see something and you are not sure to see a lot of bears (depending on their mood when you come, there is no bear specific agenda) but what you can see is amazing and the real thing! Our guide Tiberius was very friendly and professional (safety measures etc.) And provided us with very interesting comments about what we saw and romanian forests in general."

"We booked the Braşov & Rasnov tour with an extra to the bear sanctuary. Marian was really helpful in the office - lovely man! - and sorted it all by helping us make up our minds. Charlie was our guide for the day & absolutely made it for us. We learnt so much, he answered all our questions, was courteous and so much fun. We laughed a lot! He is definitely a great advertisement for the company, a real asset. The tour was comprehensive, not rushed at all - the pace was dictated by us - and we would highly recommend visiting all 3 sites. This travel company is the only one to use - nothing is too much trouble, they are helpful, polite and the prices are reasonable."

"Viscri is not to be missed! A wonderful place, rustic Romania, with fantastic scenery. Our guide Dan #thesingingminstel kept us entertained from start to finish. The pace was dictated by us and we never felt rushed. A delightful unscheduled stop to an Orthodox Church, illustrates how flexible the tour guides/company is to make sure you get the best of your day. "We booked a hiking tour at Piatra Craiului mountain from Brasov. Mihai was the tour guide who liaise with me… he was very patience to explain my questions and pick us up from the accommodation. During the hike, he always ensure for our safety, teaching us the different things of the nature and even explained to us the history of Romania, Peles Castle, bran castle, etc.
It was definitely our best decision to go on tour… worry and hassle free!"

"I had my guide Charles (Andras Karoly) all for myself on this Rasnov fortress and Bran Castle tour. He was very knowledgeable of Romania's history all the way to a thousand years ago. He answered every question I had about the monuments we were visiting and also about Romania : language, politics, communist era, and so on. He made special stops to show me amazing views of the mountains and of the castle and the fortress. He really went out of his way to make this tour memorable. Chsrles even offered to take pictures of me in front of the monuments, as I am a solo traveller. He shared legends and spooky stories about Vlad the Impaler and other historical figures. I highly recommend Active Travel for their professionnalism, enthusiasm and knowledge of Romania."

"This is a great day trip from Brasov. The reason you book of course is to visit Dracula's (Bran) Castle which is great and in a perfect location but the best part of the trip is the tour around the incredible Peles Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family (when they were still about). We took this day trip with the excellent Tudor who enhanced the day with his knowledge of history and he added a quick drive through of a ski resort near Brasov and a great viewpoint over Brasov."

"What a fantastic day! We started with Peles and then traveled back in history to catch Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress. Charlie was fabulous! He remembered our names and actively engaged all of us to ensure our comfort, safety, and enjoyment. His knowledge of the places we visited and the routes to get there was immense and entertaining. He is a seasoned professional and all the location staff were delighted to see him. I purchased the version of this tour that included the entrance fees, but there were still some additional optional charges, so be sure to ask about that and bring enough cash. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, and Charlie included stops at the best viewpoints for amazing pictures and was even happy to fill in as photographer! Lunch was at a lovely chalet in an idyllic spot with views of the mountains and Bran Castle with scrumptious traditional foods and an attentive, friendly staff. I had thought about trying to do this trip on my own, but the logistics of transportation alone would have been a nightmare. Charlie not only made the day efficient and stress-free, but he also made the trip an unforgettable experience."

"We booked direct online with Active Travel who were great from the outset. Acknowledged our booking right away and provided meeting instructions in advance.
Tiberius was our driver and guide for our tour we got picked up at 5.30pm by the main square. He was on time and we ended up having a private trip.
He was a safe driver and the vehicle was comfortable. He was very welcoming and has great knowledge of bears and there habits etc.. he's obviously also very passionate about what he does.
I spotted a bear footprint just as we got out the car. The walk to the hide is nice. Quite steep and a little muddy in places wear good shoes. It's a nice walk there and the hide is clean and comfortable.
Totally happy to answer any questions you might have and is very patient.
We felt safe and happy. Unfortunately we didn't see as much bear activity that we would've hoped for but we did see 1 bear, a female 8 years old. And when she first appeared out of the dark depths of the forest it was such an amazing sight. Something I won't forget.
She was beautiful and so very big. Unfortunately she seemed very spooked out and whilst she would usually stay around and eat, she simply grabbed the food and took it away... several minutes later she returned and did the same.
Tiberius let us wait for as long as it was safe, but sadly we didn't see another bear. It's a shame but at least we were lucky enough to see one bear twice.
I'd highly recommend this trip and feel privileged to have been able to see the beautiful brown bear in its natural habitat. Cost for 2 people EUR90.00."

"We loved our tour of these castles and the guidance and knowledge of Charlie, our guide. He went out of his way to show us these beautiful sites, including the fortress church. Seeing the backroads of Brasnov and the other towns were also lovely.
It was a rainy, cloudy day but it did capture the beauty of these castles and surrounds.
We were fortunate to have just the 2 of us which gave us a personal experience. Charlie was respectful, kind and extremely knowledgeable - gave us enough of the history without talking incessantly.

Veris provided us with an overview of the history of the region around Brasov and the territories comprising Romania from ancient times to the present. His intellect and knowledge gave us a new insights into Romania and the character of its people. During a rainy day, Veris offered a helping and very supportive arm to one of us who had a recent knee operation.

"This is a must do trip whilst in Brasov.
Tiberius picked us up at 5;30 in the main square. After a short drive we arrived at the reserve where we had a pleasant walk to the observation hut. our guide Tiberius was extremely knowledgable and made us feel safe at all times.
We sat patiently for around an hour, i was just giving up the will to live when a big brown bear made an appearance, it has to be one of the most amazing experiences i have ever had. We saw a total of 3 different bears 2 big males and a female, which kept coming and going . I would highly recommend this trip and am hoping to take my daughters for their 21st and 18th birthdays."

"Small-group is exactly what we got with only the two of us met by cheerful and knowledgable guide Tudor Georoceanu. The walk is short drive from Brasov. Avoid weekends as this is a favourite spot for locals and it took us a while to find parking. Also, lots of people on the track which is rough underfoot and difficult to overtake in places. You pay just below the ladders and enter the canyon (have the right change...or small notes). The canyon can be a bit of a bottleneck especially if there are people ahead not so happy with heights and taking their time ascending. The ladders are well made but not enclosed so heed the warnings when it comes to kids etc. Highly recommended otherwise. Also, all credit to our guide Tudor who got us off the main trail to see the Bear Wall climbing spot. Spectacular forest walk and not a soul to be seen....until you re-join the main track."

"We booked this and were picked up in Brasov Square by Tiberius, who would be our tour guide. He drove us South West of Brasov to the base of the mountain. He was friendly and informative, and gave us a safety talk before a short walk to the 'hide' (like a bunker with windows).
After awhile a six year old male bear appeared. We got a great view of him as he fed for awhile before moving into the woods. Later we saw another, much younger bear. It was a great experience, and Tiberius was a great host. He put in the extra effort to ensure we enjoyed the trip."

"I only had one day to sightsee in Brasov and, based on the reviews on TripAdvisor, booked this tour.
It was a terrific day-long tour, from 9am to 8pm. Bognan was our guide (cheerful, informative and chatty throughout) as we toured Peles Castle (my favourite), Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress. We also detoured, and got to experience the Caraiman Monastery and see one of the ski resorts close-up. Our guide provided lots of background explanations, including on the history of Romania. I learnt a huge amount about the country, and the region, and no questions seemed off limits.
I was travelling alone, and joined three others in the car, and we soon hit it off. At no time were we ever under any pressure to rush around the sites - we could take our time, thanks to Bogdan.
A day I'll remember, and would recommend it to others."

"In April we did the short trip visiting Bran and Rasnov. The whole trip took 6 hours, but the distance was shorter than expected and we never had a boring minute. It was easter day and it must have been more than 1000 people in line for Bran, but our guide made sure we were first in line. It was great to be able to take some good photos before the crowds came in. The guide had lots of information to share, and it wasn't difficult to see that he had a inner passion for the subjects. It was great that he always shared both sides of the stories. After telling us about the different myths and rumors, he always ended with explaining what most likely was the real insident or story that had come to create the different myths. "We took this tour two days ago and loved every minute of it. You can book this tour through the company's website activetravel.ro but we felt more secure booking it through TripAdvisor even though it was $13 more. Our guide Bara Zsolt, who goes by George, called us the night before to confirm where to pick us up at as we were staying at an Airbnb 2 miles from the Old Town. He picked us up right on time at 810am, then we picked up 5 more people in the city center.
The van he used was new, clean, and very comfortable. George was also a great driver, making sure that everyone wore their seatbelts. We headed to Peles Castle first to avoid the crowds later. The castle is beautiful and George provided us with great information during the tour. He went slow making sure to answer everyone's questions.We then headed to Bran Castle. This castle is much smaller and different than Peles but it was very interesting to see and we also enjoyed this castle.
George then took us to an authentic Romanian restaurant in a beautiful setting where we got to eat outside and enjoy the sunny day. The food was affordable and was great. My husband had the cabbage rolls and I had the cheesy polenta with egg and sausage. Everyone in our group had the dumplings (donuts) for dessert which were very very good.
We then headed to Rasnov Fortress and as a group we decided to pay the extra $3 and take the funicular to the top instead of the 100+ stairs as it was getting late and we were running out of time. We only had enough time to walk to the top of the fortress before heading back to the funicular, but by this time the tour had lasted almost 12-hours and I think we were all ready to go home.
The day was fantastic and we highly recommend spending the money (the entrance fee to the three sights and the lunch are all extra so be sure to bring enough cash). I also recommend tipping your guide as George did a fantastic job. I never know how much to tip and I even asked everyone in our group how much to tip and no one seemed to know. So I will just post that we gave 50 Lei, I don't know if that was good or bad or correct."

"Although this trip involves a lot of driving, it's definitely worth it! The Transfagarasan Road is a must if you go to Romania! It's stunning (if a little nerve wracking going around some of the corners where the road has fallen away!) If you're feeling fit there are a couple of routes that you can walk up to the top of the ridge for even better views. We did the blue triangle one (probably the steepest one there), which you do need proper walking boots and ideally trekking poles for.
Unfortunately Poienari Fortress was shut because of the bears, but our guide Tudor took as to a fascinating fortified church instead, which was a really interesting little gem.
Tudor himself was also a brilliant guide, he chatted the whole way and told us all sorts of stories and histories of the area and Romania as a whole, which made the long drives go much quicker. He clearly has a passion for what he does and is well informed on all sorts of subjects. He was also interested in us though, which added a nice personal touch.
Definitely recommend doing this trip with Active Travel."

"We got picked up with a small group of people nearby the emblematic black church by our guide. The tour started surprisingly as our guide brought us to a fortified Saxon church and sang beautifully for us. We quickly learnt to appreciate our guide Dan for he had a great humor, had a ton of cool anecdotes and really good explanations. The Bran Castle visit was accurate and centered around its real history. The visit of Rasnov's citadel was impressive as well, it's beautifully conserved and our guide sang along in French with an accordion player. "Actually, I didn’t have much information about this transfagarasan road trip, i just reserved this tour with being attracted by only one photo. But it was much more than I expected. All the way of driving from Brasov to Transfagarash was so beautiful with all pastoral views and the view at the top of transfagarasan was absolutely stunning with snow and glacier lake. I think this is must-visit place. Highly recommending!!!!
This was our second trip ( first one was castle tour) with Charlie, superb tour guide. All the time being for the tour, he was so attentive, friendly, and professional.
He was sharing a lot of stories about Romania and tried to give us more understanding about Romania, which made our trip more abundant and pleasant.
I liked his way of dealing guests, not just treating as customers, but being friends.

"We did a 1 day excursion in the mountains with active travel and love it! The place was really nice, beautiful sightseeing, not too hard to walk.. but what we would like to highlight it was how we liked our guide, Mihai, an interesting person to talk with, knowledgable of the area, mountains and climbing in general, but also it was a lovely opportunity to get to know more about the sociocultural insight of the country.. we really liked him, he was kind, attentive, it considered everybody’s needs in the group and, not less important, the best Romanian driver we found in 20 days travelling around the country with a car!
We really recommend him if you go near by Brasov!"

"Tudor was right on time at our hotel at the time indicated in the confirmation email. An extremely cheerful person, he ensured that we get tit bits of information throught out the drive to the parking. He ensured that he walked at our pace, did not hurry. Yes there could be a bottle neck at the base of the ladders, however after that he gave us an option of a 15 min trek of a 1 hr trek, we took the 1 hr one. And boy, it was amazing. Imagine the only soul in the forest. He even had spare jackets. An excellent trip. When you book through active travel, put in a request that your guide has to be Tudor Georoceanu."

"I was traveling solo in Romania and booked a day tour of Bran Castle and Râşnov Fortress with Active Travel through Trip Advisor. We ended up being a small group of three plus our wonderful guide, Bara Zsolt (“George”). Our guide was very kind and knowledgeable, and I really enjoyed the day!
After the tour, I regretted my decision to not include Peles Palace, and spoke to the tour operator about getting me into just the Peles part of the next day’s tour. He was great in working with me on this and we were able to devise a plan where I would join a scheduled tour for Peles and then be dropped at the train station while they went on to the rest that I had already seen. I really appreciated him making this work for me. I was lucky enough to be with George again on the next day’s tour, which I was happy about since he had been so wonderful the day before.
I highly recommend visiting all three locations and with this company! The cost is of good value (note that entrance fees are not included, but are not very expensive, and you get to skip the queue). If you end up with George as your tour guide, ask him about DinoLand and a good Italian restaurant in Brasov ;)."

"We did seven days with Active Travel and the experience was amazing. We did a self guided hiking tour for which they arranged all accommodations and transfers - both of which are important in this area as well as mapped routes and local advice. They were flexible when we had to adjust to a weather day and put us in great places to stay. Reasonably priced and great service! Would definitely use them again.
One note - Bran Castle (which actually has no connection whatsoever to Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula) is not that great. Peles Castle is stunningly beautiful and much better. In hindsight we would have skipped Bran. Most certainly if you have to choose between the two, do Peles"

"We had a really fabulous day, we met Tudor in the square and we set off for Peles Palace. All the way there he told us stories about Romania, about the people and it’s history. Peles was stunning, so much to see and I loved the stories of the Royal Family. We took so many photos. We went to Rasnov Fortress next, we stopped for lunch at the lovely Romanian restaurant there and then got the tractor up the hill. This fort was really interesting and the views were spectacular, we were right in the Mountains, I really enjoyed it. Our final stop was Bran Castle and this was another gem, all 3 places were really different and Tudor made each one really special. After we left Bran, Tudor asked if we would like to take the road through the Mountains and it was so good, Tudor stopped at various view points so we could take photos. We were so pleased to have taken this trip and see these 3 fabulous places but it was made so much better having Tudor to speak to. He told us amazing stories of the history, communism and what it is like to live in Romania today. He was so passionate about his beautiful country so ask for Tudor if you book this tour."

"Me and my three teenagers had a great day with the group led by the very engaging guide Alex. He gave a vivid and complex tale of Romanian ancient history, recent past and present situation. It was no rehearsed manuscr112, more costum made for the day and the group. My kids had no problem to understand. With Alex, we had a short break for Romanian fast food and then passed the queue to Bran without any delay. We were picked up and left at our Airbnb situated outside old city."

"This is my first tripadvisor review and i felt compelled to write it cos Tudor was such a great guide. His english is very fluent, excellent knowledge whenever we pose questions, very warm-hearted and sincere service. Brasov is already an amazing place to visit and he was the icing on the cake!
I also would like to commend on his safe driving (yet not slow, in case you misinterpret it). My group is only 2 of us and joined by a lovely british couple, and i can tell they enjoyed Tudor's service as well, as they were so kind to bought him a customised mug while we had a stopover. And coincidentally, bumped into them again the next day and they sign up for another of Tudor's hiking tour (which i wished i had too!)
Lastly, i also admire Tudor's love for his country and for Brasov particularly, and it showed through.
I had a great time, one of the best country i have visited, and Tudor was truly a superb guide.

"We were party of a big guided tour of Romania and opted to separate and go on this. It was incredibly worth it. Our group did the same tour, but it cost 3 times as much and the others saw 1/3 of what we saw. This is the best way to see the country cities of Romania. Our guide was incredible and think his name was Charlie, but he was one of the best guides we had. Our guide went out of his way to make it a great and memorable trip. Cannot say enough!"

"Had a great day with Tudor exploring the area around the 7 Ladders Canyon. It was a small group of only 2 other guests (3 tourists total) which was perfect for tailoring the tour to our liking. Avec lui la balade se fait d’anecdotes en anecdotes en rends le circuit plus agréable même s’il l’est déjà naturellement.
Superbe panorama, un peu de monde par endroit mais d’autres assez isolés.
Vu trop peu de faune sauvage à mon goût, mais l’heure et la saison n’étaient sans doute les plus appropriés pour faire ces rencontres.
Vous prendrez votre repas en route dans un gîte, suffisant copieux pour faire le job, prévoyez malgré tout quelques en-cas car la balade peut prendre 6 ou 7h."

"This was a great experience, we really enjoyed it!
We got an halfday of hiking in the beautiful mountains and Woods near Brasov. Climbing up the ladders in the Canyon was exciting and fun not to mention beautiful with the surroundings. But what really made this something extra and special was the fantastic tour-guide Tudor G! He looked after each one of us in the group and making sure that we were ok and enjoying ourselfes throughout the hike, especially when hiking in the steep hills and up crossing the wooden bridges. As an extra bonus we got to know some more of the Romanian history and culture as Tudor gladly shared his knowledge with us, special thanks for the local restaurant recommendation, thumbs up!

"We started our tour at Rasnov and Alex made the history of the place come alive, while making us feel involved by asking questions and holding conversations with us, rather than reciting off a scr112 and then just moving on. Afterwards, we headed to Bran castle where we had a break for some fast food. Then we made our way through the ticket line at which point Alex told us about the history of the castle and its role in the Romanian culture. Finally, we made our way through the castle where Alex shared more fun facts about the design of the castle, its rooms and the whole Dracula mythology. Our tour finished with Alex dropping us off at our hotel. Overall, the tour was fun, enjoyable and easy to understand."

"I rarely take tours because of what I feel is the sheep mentality required (meaning you just follow the crowd unquestioningly). However, I was pleasantly surprised both with the accommodating attitude of Dan the guide and his almost encyclopedic knowledge about the castles. He also supplemented this with photos of the relevant personages involved. He was particularly attentive when supporting an old lady up the fortress.

"We had the best guide, Zsolt! He really did make it the entire tour great. He was very knowledgeable even with things unrelated to the castles. The only thing that was a bit of a miss for myself and my partner was that we didnt want to spend any money on the tour and knew the one we booked didnt include entry fees, however weren't asked if we did or didnt want to enter and bought the group tickets in which we had to pay him for at the end. But other then that this is still a 5star tour especially if you get the same guide as we did."

"Quedamos con Tiberio a las 17:50 en nuestro alojamiento. Nos recogió puntual y luego fuimos en coche durante 40 minutos. Allí, en el bosque aparcamos y andamos durante 15 minutos hasta llegar a un escondite. El camino fue muy emocionante, esperando a que saliera un oso en cualquier momento. Como les dejan comida, los osos aparecen rápido y la verdad es que nos encantó verlos de cerca, escondidos. Vimos 3 osos y dos zorritos. A la vuelta, casi ya de noche, el caminos resultó aún más emocionante porque sabíamos que nos estaban vigilando. En ningún momento nos sentimos inseguros porque Tiberio nos explicó todo muy bien. La experiencia, aunque un poco cara, nos gustó."

"I went for the Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress tour with a Peles Castle excursion (note it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) which is optional. The trip was well planned to visit all of these as the crowds were dwindling. Alex Mitu was our guide and he took excellent care of us. "When I did this tour we had a really small group, with Tudor as our guide. It was great! A nice group and Tudor knew so much about Romanian history, culture, whatnot... I learned so much! The balea lake and the Transfagarasan road are awesome. Only downside is that because the Fortress is closed, the dam is also not visited, I was looking forward to that, but it made sense and when I brought it up, we discussed going to the dam anyway but collectively decided to skip it because the other route back was nicer. Instead we went to faragas Fortress, which was nice! Definitely recommend."

"We spent a full day with Tudor and had a fantastic day visiting Balea Lake and Fagaras Fortress. This young lad was really interesting, fun, knowledgeable and passionate about his country and Transylvania in particular. Felt very safe and comfortable with his driving on some very tricky roads. I am a real history /geography /travel nerd and he was able to satisfy my needs!!! The day was made complete by a lovely lunch at a trout farm complex which only added to our enjoyment. "Our guide and driver for the day Tudor, arrived ahead of our meeting time, greeting us both with a smile. We were also lucky as it was only us on the tour that day.
The car was comfortable and clean and his driving skills were great. Tudor explained where we were going on the trip and what to expect for the day. That he would explain about the places and history and should we have any questions not to hesitate to ask.
He clearly has excellent knowledge on the subject of the places we visited and the history of Romania. Some interesting stories and we learnt a lot from him. I didn't even appreciate that Romania had a British Queen in the past.
He was very accommodating and happy for us to go at our own pace whilst we took as many photos as we wanted. He also kindly offered to take photos of us both.
He explained things in detail and also very importantly he had a great sense of humor which made the day fun. His general manner and approach excellent. Perfect English speaking skills and very enthusiastic about his job, country and work. He gave an insight into Romanian life and cultures.
The tour was excellent and good value for money. Bran castle is so impressive upon approaching. The inside is interesting and amazingly humble.
Rasnov fortress is cool. There are nice views from there too. Only downside here is the tourist shops in the fortress area which take away the historic feel and ambience of the place. Better to have these outside of the walls.
We took a different route on the way back so we could see the skiing resort and stopped at a viewing point to see Brasov and the mountains in the distance. Tudor was even kind enough to give recommendations of where in the city we should go.
Take the tour and I certainly fully recommend this company and if you're lucky enough to get Tudor as your guide you're in for a great day.

"I have been travelling in Europe for 49 years, never once with a group. When I started to investigate getting to Bran, Peles, and Rasnov on my own as I have already done for 10 castles in Slovakia, I soon discovered how time consuming it would be. The train station is quite a distance from central Brasov, where I was staying, and because all of these sites are in the mountains, it soon became obvious that I would have to bite the bullet and find a tour.
Well that turned out to be the best decision of my 3 months of travel in 4 countries! To begin with it was so nice to be in a car instead of the back of a minibus, as I had imagined. Turned out that it was just the wonderful Tudor and myself for the day. His English is flawless, his command of the history of all the area, not just the sites, is terrific, and he is great young man to day trip with. He’s highly educated and actually comes from Brasov so there’s no question he can’t answer. So make sure to go see all 3 places because each is completely unique.
Tudor is an amazing asset to the company!"

"Bogdan, our guide, was a very funny and open hearted guy. He told us a lot of things about his exciting childhood and live, the forest and Braşov. Even for me (I’m Romanian) there were a lot of things I didn’t know. Bogdan picked us up in the City Centre and spoke fluently and well understandable English. Even though he was the guy he let us decide how we want to configure our hike (how challenging and long we want to be up on the mountain). He really likes to talk to others, his favorite topic is bears;) i don’t think he means it too seriously, I think he just wants so scare the tourists a little bit."

"We took the Râşnov and Bran castle tour with Alex. He picked us up right from our Air B&B which was fantastic! He was so good to chat with while we picked up the others in our group. There were only 6 of us, so it made the tour easy. We could ask all the questions we needed to with Alex’s full attention, sometimes even about things that had nothing to do with the tour! He was very knowledgeable about both sites and made sure we all stayed together at Bran...which isn’t easy because it’s so busy there!
I would HIGHLY recommend Alex to anyone interested in this tour. His personal stories really made you appreciate the history Transylvania has to offer. It was like a really cool history lesson with a teacher I actually wanted to pay attention to!"

There were 7 people on the tour, so very small, which is nice. Peles Castle was beautiful inside and out, definitely worth the visit. A visit to Rasnov's Fortress was relaxed and not rushed. The mode of transportation to the top was interesting. The trolley was pulled by a tractor. Bran Castle "Dracula's Castle" was definitely worth the visit. "A friend and I did the Bran Castle, Râşnov Fortress and Peles Castle tour last weekend and absolutely loved it. Tudor was an incredibly knowledgable and friendly guide who made us feel very welcome and comfortable throughout the day.
We were picked up from our hotel bang on time at 8.10am and found that there was only 1 other guest on the tour that day. For that reason, we were in a car rather than a minivan which was great. Tudor took us to each destination in an order that he thought would mean the least people being at the attractions, which was brilliant, and told us many facts and along the way. He entered Bran Castle and Râşnov Fortress with us and showed us around, telling us a huge amount of history (I have no idea how he remembers everything!!!) but was unable to accompany us into Peles Castle due to it having its own tour guides.
We had the option of stopping for a sit down meal or a grab and go snack for lunch, and decided on the grab and go. Had a lovely Romanian donut bread with cheese on (I can’t remember the name - eek) which Tudor ordered for us. He made things very easy throughout the whole day.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Romania - a great way to see a number of sights in quick succession - and would love to say a big thanks to Tudor for a brilliant day!"

"We took a private one day tour with Marian at Piatra Craiului National Park. We couldn't have asked for a better guide neither a better way to spend our Sunday. The hike is of easy to medium difficulty so a certain level of fitness is recommended, but Marian made sure to adjust the route and pace to our level. "The trip was nice especially Peles Castle. The craftsmanship and artwork are without a doubt some of the finest in Europe. The number of tourists is quite large even at the end of the season. Charlie our driver/guide was excellent and got us into Peles at the front of the line right at the open, which meant more room and less noise while describing the interior.
Brân Castle is more of a curiosity with some historical significance but the whole Vlad Dracula story is just that and the Romanian government has utilized it as a made up tourist attraction.
Rasnov Fortress is in a very poor state of repair and was a let down after the other two.
Over all a good trip and Charlie made it even better."

"We went on this tour with Dan, and I give my two thumbs up for this tour.
We first went to Bran castle, and Dan accompanied us inside the castle providing brief history of each room inside the castle.
After the castle visit, we stopped at a coffee shop which had a beautiful view of the castle and enjoyed some sheep cheese, a specialty of the region, as we sipped our tea.
Next stop was Râşnov fortress, where Dan narrated the history of the place providing us the right context for the visit, and guided us eager shutterbags to strategic viewpoints. On the way back, we munched some traditional sweets: biscuit cake and chocolate.
To summarise, I would highly recommend this tour, especially to those who don’t have their own car."

"This was hands down the best tour I’ve ever booked! Our guide Tiberius was friendly, professional, funny and just an all round amazing person.
We saw 4 bears including 1 baby, 2 deer and a golden eagle. Tiberius was so knowledgable and it is clear how much he cares about the bears and the Romanian wildlife in general.
I felt 100% safe throughout even though we were walking through the open forest, we were given a full safety briefing and Tiberius checked on us at regular intervals.
Honestly I would have booked again the next night if I’d had the time.

"Thoroughly enjoyed my 6 day trip with Active Travel/ Natural Adventure Company. Great itinerary meant I got to explore a variety of areas without spending much time in transit. Notes were very easy to follow, accommodation comfortable, everything went according to plan. I didn’t need it, but it was good to know that there was someone I could call if I needed support. They were also very accommodating when I requested a slight change to plans. I highly recommend the company and this trip in October was spectacular with incredible autumn colours to enjoy. "Great tour with Titus bear watching. Picked up from accommodation and drove to forest. Walked on track for about 20 minutes to hide. Saw 4 bears and a fox eating from feeding station. My guide Tudor is professional and very friendly, he explained many historical, cultural and geographic knowledge, unlike some guides they only show you where is the beauty view, or how to take beautiful photos that you can post on instagram. "We had a 4 day excursion with this company that included Bran castle, Peles Castle and the fortress at Rasnov as well as 2 hiking days. Mihai was our guide and he took excellent care of us the whole time. His english is amazing. His knowledge and love of Romania is fantastic and brings a richness to the trip that we really enjoyed.
The hiking was beautiful, while harder than we expected, Mihai made sure we all made it through in great order. I would use this company again in a heart beat if I am ever back in that part of the world."

"When a friend recommend the Brasov area, he told me that you'd want a guide to enjoy it well. I booked a tour 4 months out with another tour company who cancelled less than 24 hours before we were supposed to leave. I found Active Travel with availability for the next day and booked it.
Charlie was our guide and he was amazing. Picked me up from the hotel (right on time!) and took us all around to visit the different castles in the area. Full of great information, awesome suggestions and jokes that will have you smiling all day long, he saved my trip.

"Our guide, Tudor Georoceanu, was very nice, and caring.. We were only 2, so it seemed like we were hiking with a friend. He picked us up really on time and we drove maybe 20 minutes from Brasov to the trail. Once arrived, we walked 1 hour to reach the 7 scari. We paid the entrance to the canyon, and it was not very crowed for a Sunday so we could take our time, take some pictures (thanks to our amazing guide who has photographer skills also !). The canyon trail is not that long (30 minutes), but the forest and landscape surrounding the canyon are a must seen. I really recommend this tour and especially during Fall, cause it's the time when trees turned to Orange, Red and Yellow, and that's really just amazing."

"The guides - Bogdan and Marian - were simply amazing.
In the morning we were taken swiftly to Bran Castle as Bogdan had told us that it was likely to get very busy later in the morning. He was not wrong! For the majority of the tour, it felt like we had the castle to ourselves.
The car trip from Brasov (we were collected directly outside our hotel!) was lengthy but luckily Bogdan filled the time recounting tales of Romanian, Transylvanian and Dacian history whilst all the time pointing out local and interesting sights.
Onward to Rasnov and their fortress, affording amazing views of the surrounding areas and more history than you could shake a stick at.
Meeting up with Marian, who took us onto Peles Castle. He had a wonderful surprise in store for us. We had known previously that Peles would be closed on the day we were going but Marian had agreed to take us there so that we could at least take some pictures and walk in the grounds. But luck was on our side and a last minute change to the Peles calendar allowed us to tour inside.
We had been told in advance that this tour did not include ticketed entry to the Castles or the fortress but, to be honest, these entrance are not expensive. They are all worth a few Lei and Peles did charge an additional 35 lei for taking photos within the Castle.
After the Castle, Marian took us for a coffee and a cake to celebrate my partner's birthday, which was lovely and really cemented our view that this Tour company are fantastic - they wanted our day to be really special and made it extra special with their genuine friendliness.
We were then dropped back outside our hotel and we couldn't wait to leave these guys a five star review. If you are considering staying in or near Brasov and want to experience Bran, Rasnov, or Peles please please treat yourselves to a tour with Active Travel - you will not be disappointed."

We usually don’t use tour guides, but I’m very glad we did because Charlie also knew the best places to go in each location and some of things you wouldn’t know or do on your own. We started with Peles Castle which was incredible, the history is amazing especially as it is authentic from over 100 years ago. "This was our first time in Romania, we were travelling as a group of 4 adults. We wanted to see the “real” Romania. Our guide Gabriel certainly gave us the experience we were looking for. Gabriel spoke excellent English, was very friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating, he let us set the pace of the tour and took us to get some Mici when we were hungry. We had considered doing this tour on our own but were so glad we did it with a guide, we would never have learnt about and understood the Saxon village of Viscri and the old town of Sighisora.
Highly recommended tour, thank you Gabriel for a great day and our treasured memories and photographs and thank you Marian for arranging this trip at late notice."

"I did the Peles, Bran and Rasnov tour yesterday with my partner. Our tour guide (Dan) was amazing, great sense of humour, incredible knowledge, and just made the whole thing really fun and unforgettable. Dan knows most of the staff at these castles, and you'll be greeted warmly at each location.
The sites are a great glimpse into local history. Doing the tour with a knowledgeable guide makes the whole thing easy and convenient, and you can ask whatever questions you want. Peles castle especially is really special.
All in all, I'd say this is a must do for anyone visiting Brasov, it's been the highlight of our time here."

Both were conducted privately by Mr. Negrescu, a fantastic and knowledgeable guide, and an accomplished singer! "We had the best time ever. Our guide was really fun and very informative. In about 8 hours we manage to see to Volcanic lake and ride Slides down and up again. Go to Sulphate cave and challenge our lives inside. We also looked at bird cemetery. After we try meniral waters which treats many chronic diseases.
All day of fresh air and breathtaking sceneries. Some bear prints.
I suggest this trip to every one as it's one of the best think we did in Transylvania."
