We would highly recommend this tour! My husband and I both really enjoyed it. Karoly was extremely knowledgeable and also a very fun person to be around. The entire trip was well planned and went very smooth. He even took the extra time to show us the ski resort and a few other places we were curious about. You can tell he loves history and educating people about his country. This was a great tour!

My guide Tiberiu was great. He was very friendly and had a deep knowledge of the history of Transylvania and Romania. We viewed Dracula’s Bran Castle and how it became known, as well as the relation to the royal family. There was a chance to stop for coffee and a snack between the castles and Tiberiu was happy to answer any questions I had about Romania.
I really recommend this tour for those who want to receive a guided tour of the castles and landscape while enriching yourself with the history of the many cultures of Transylvania, and how it differs from the rest of Romania.

Our group of five was lucky to have our guide, Tiberiu Simon from Active Travel in Brasov, all to ourselves for a leisurely day of touring Peles and Bran Castles in the Transylvania region of Romania.
He knew his Romanian history and obviously enjoyed sharing it with travelers like us, letting us set the pace of where we wanted to linger or when were ready to move on.
While Tiberiu shared plenty of facts, figures, names and dates about both Castles, he wrapped them around interesting stories about people and events to make them more memorable.
He also knew as much about art as history and could answer any question about furnishings, carvings, armor, murals and portraits.
Tiberiu scouted the best places to stop for pictures and took group shots for us, sharing them immediately while it was fresh on our minds.
He blended easily into our group and joined us for lunch, suggesting local dishes to try like hearty soups, polenta (like corn mush with fried egg and sour cream) and various meat entrees from sausage to mutton.
After our tour of Bran Castle, Tiberiu treated us to “Kurtoskalacs,” a cylinder cake roasted on a spit, sold warm from street carts. It was so tasty, I could eat this three times a day. Sadly, it’s found only in the Transylvania region we were visiting.
Our day trip was one of the highlights of our visit to Romania thanks to Tiberiu Simon who introduced us to the people, places and culture of the Transylvania region and made it so wonderfully personal and memorable for us.

Desde el momento que nos subimos al bus fue increible, el guia "Tibi" fue muy atento, nos trataron como la realeza!.
Nuestro recorrido inicio saliendo de brasov directo a Peles, desde la entrada y con una vista increible al castillo nuestro guia Tibi, nos explicó toda la historia del castillo.
Entramos y nos explico cada detalle de la arquitectura.
Al salir de ahi nos tomamos unos minutos para "las fotos!" con el castillo.
De ahi directo a Bran Castle, que a pesar que ya habia estado hace 7 años ahi, nunca tuve guia en esa ocasión, pero esta vez Tibi nos explico todos lo del castillo, algo interesante fue la historia del corazón de la reina María. Por ultimo Rasnov!!! Uffff ni les cuento lo increible. Full recomendado el tour.

Si estas en brasov, realmente necesitas hacer trekking con ellos!.
Fue mi primera vez haciendo trekking y lo volveria hacer, la vista del parque es increíble, todo blanco lleno de nieve!, Eramos un grupo pequeño de 8 personas tal vez, caminamos a buen ritmo y siempre había tiempo para unas fotos!
Lo mejor fue la villa, ver como vive la gente.
Nuestro guia Tibi nos explicaba cada detalle de la naturaleza, historia, infraestructura y sobre todo lo importante que es la naturaleza.
SIN DUDA VOLVERE A HACERLO.
Importante lleven ropa adecuada y equipo necesario dependiendo de la temporada, nosotros fuimos en en marzo y habia mucha nieve!.

Today we visited Dracula's Castle in Bran. It was impressive! Guide Marin from Active Travel picked us up from the hotel, provided a comfortable bus. During the trip to Bran Marin emotionally told us a story, you will not get bored with him. Our entire team enjoyed our time very much. I booked this tour on Viator.
The tour was absolutely amazing and Tiberiu is an incredible guide, so knowledgeable and passionate and committed to delivering an unforgettable experience. And of course very friendly. I was the only guest so I had the guide all for myself! Not only did he drive me to the places but he also accompanied me to visit them and told me all the stories about the the castles, the towns, the characters, and about Romania itself. All to incredible detail and in a perfect Italian (my native language) - obviously he speaks perfect English too, and a few more languages. Overall the whole tour (including Bran castle, Peles castle and Rasnov fortress) lasted from 8,30 to around 17.
Absolutely recommended!

We had a private 8hour tour with Charlie.
It was really excellent, he was very interesting and easy to chat with and tailored the tour perfectly to our needs. He knew a great restaurant for lunch and escorted us to the station for our train in good time.
It was great to see the contrast between Peles Castle and Bran Castle. The mountain scenery is also beautiful.

What better way to explore and learn about Romania, than with someone who calls this place home? I had a couple different one-on-one private tours with Dan, and I am forever grateful for what he has taught and shown me. From stories about his family, upbringing, and personal experiences, to local history, current events, and thorough explanations to all my questions, I felt Romania come alive during these daylong adventures. The caves, castles, sanctuaries, fortified churches-citadels, countryside, and natural surroundings of Transylvania are each profound in every way. I'm impressed with how knowledgeable and talented Dan is, and he certainly knows how to find joy in life, while making the effort to have meaningful interactions not only with me, but many different people along the way, too. It's an honor to have been with someone who genuinely cares about the well-being of himself, those in his company, and even strangers in his community. Notre guide Dan était vraiment super! Très à l’écoute! Bon conducteur ! Fin connaisseur de l’histoire de la Roumanie ! Dan parle roumain, allemand, français, anglais! The company that arranged our travel to Romania booked my fiancé and I onto this tour of the nearby castles from Brasov, and it was the highlight of our whole trip! Our guide was Charlie, and he was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the castles and local history, but also so willing to tailor the experience to the interests of our tour group. A wonderful tour of three very different locations made all the more amazing by our guide, Dan! His local knowledge and of Romanian history and culture both old and new gave us an experience that we would not have had if we had visited these places on our own. During our tour, Dan explained history, artwork, and gave us a real feel for the royals who lived there. Peles Castle with all of its splendor, Bran Castle with its older history and the grounds around Rasnov fortress ( closed for reconstruction) taught us about Romanian history and provided beautiful views. Dan is beloved by people all along the tour and now by us .

Our guide Charlie first took us to Peles Castle, then to Bran Castle and then to Rasnov.
He always tailored the visits to our rhythm and presented us with very interesting historical facts and curiosities about the 3 places. Peles is one of the most beautiful castles I've seen, so it's a must see!
Unfortunately, the Rasnov Fortress was closed for renovation, but we still took an unusual transport up there (a tractor?), which made the trip even funnier!
I would 100% recommend this day tour to anyone who visits Brasov!

Alternative trip when road is closed is stunning. Charlie our guide was so helpful, friendly and informative. The cable car ride and the views at the top of the mountain are spectacular and so are the trips to the monastry and the golden topped church. We went at a leisurely pace and stopped for coffee and food as often as we wanted. I have done many tours all over the world but this one was the best I have ever done. Would recommend this tour above all others.

We had a great day with Dan. He was a wealth of information. Peles Castle was beautiful. I kept on reminding myself Bran Castle was never Dracula's Castle but how it had been refurbished was interesting. Too bad Rasov Fortress was under renovation preventing us from entering it but again Dan gave us a great history lesson about the fortress. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about the sites as well as the history of Brasov's buildings and life before and after communism.

We had a wonderful 4 hours hike in the Valea Sambetei, it snowed the day before so we had a beautiful snowy landscape.
Valentin was an excellent guide, very nice and professionnal. He picked us at our place, we made the hike and as we were quick for the hike and finished early he showed us a monastery nearby. We recommande this activity.

On this trip we seen 3/4 bears, a fox and a deer. It was a very good experience and I would definitely recommend anyone. The local guide was a bear hunter/watcher himself, a nice man who knows a lot about the Romanian bears and Schnapps :)
The other personnel of the bear watching were very friendly too and the price is very good too.
I went bear watching before but it wasn't like this one, we didn't see any bears then and now we seen 3 of them which was very nice.
If we ever come back to Romania we are definitely doing this again.

My boyfriend and I went on a hike in Piatra Craiului National Park. We hiked to Cabana Curmatura and then we headed to Piatra Mica. Our guide was Bogdan, who was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and guided us through the trickiest parts of the walk. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. We both found the route really enjoyable as it had a mixture of easy scenic walking and with some more challenging sections near the top. We really enjoyed the meal at Cabana Curmatura and some delicious apple cake. We’ll definitely do another hike with Bogdan!

"If I could give an extra bonus golden star for this tour, I really would! The main reason for that was my guide Charlie. Not only did my tour still go ahead even though there were no other people signed up for the trip that day, but it was truly just one of the most personal tours I have been on (in the best possible way). I’m very glad I chose the option with Peles castle as it was amazing. The views on the way, the castle itself and in general the areas around were magnificent! Also the Bran castle was really nice and much, MUCH more than “just” the Dracula-castle! My fantastic guide shared both funny stories, history of Transilvania and Romania and also myths and legends with me! It was never rushed, the atmosphere was always light and friendly (yet still extremely professional!) It felt almost like just driving and walking around with a very knowledgeable friend who was genuinely interested in making this the best trip ever for me as a tourist. So if you chose this trip and get Charlie as a guide, you are really in for a treat! So much knowledge + good and honest tips for how to make the most out of your stay in Brasov. And he knows all the nice viewpoints and hidden gems inside the castles!
I was lucky enough to do another trip with the same company the day after and that one was also amazing! One of the most obvious reasons for that is that they are doing something they enjoy themselves. And it really shines through and adds the little extra. Never just a learned by heart presentation with a bored tour guide with these guys! "What an amazing trip that was! I did the trip as a solo traveler and was so positively surprised how tailored the day was. My super-guide Marian and I decided to do little bit more hiking instead of just the villages and it was really rewarding! The views were gorgeous and both the tempo and level was perfectly adjusted to fit me. One thing you’ll notice very quickly if you are lucky enough to get to go on a trip with Marian is his easygoing and warm attitude. He really does enjoy what he is doing and that gives the little extra to the trips he guides as well. He was very good at choosing nice paths that took us to amazing viewpoints. But at the same time it was always time to just enjoy the nature, breathe in the fresh mountain air and just relax. I did the walk in may, but I mean to come back just so I could do it again in the fall and winter as well!
We ended the hike by walking through the scenic mountain village and had a nice lunch with locally produced cheese and meats in the local guesthouse, which was the perfect way to end the trip. So if you are looking for good trip out of town in lovely transilvanian nature — this is absolutely it, look no further."

"It was a perfect day even though the weather was not perfect, the road was not opened yet, so we took the cable car. the view up is wonderful, but we had a lot of foggy clouds
When we go down, I really wanted to go to the waterfall, and luckily for me- Dan -my awesome guide -agreed! (It’s a bit challenging, and took us about 1.5 h +-)
We finished the day at very good and tasty traditional restaurant, with fish pools that you can fish (and eat after that) and hydrotherapy pool for the foot

Tiberius was great, very knowledgeable and informative with a clear passion for his home and it's history and we were delighted to have him share that with us on our tour. We were a little disappointed that Rasnov Fortress was still closed as we thought it was open by now but understand covid has caused a delay with the restoration work and Tiberius did stop for us to stop to take a photo with Rasnov in the background. Overall it was a lovely day and a fantastic experience! We would most definitely recommend.

Our tour guide, Kerchi, is one of the special people we met. We are almost 80 years old, came on a trip with Kerchi for a week, and it was an extraordinary experience. We did 7 different trips with him.

a short 30-40 min drive, very short walk to the small cabin, where you take a seat in the front row for the show. well, obviously, you have to have a bit of luck and patience since you are trying to spot wild bears, but that's the offer and a very good and safe opportunity. so, we were lucky to see 3 of them. the guides were really nice and knowledgeable. if you want any tipps for other parts of the country, things to do around, want to know something about romanias history or, well, bears, you'll get that too during the ride. oh, and the communication up front was easy and quick. enough said, would recommend.

Alexandru is a great, knowledgeable, guide since he has a background in forestry. Therefore, the trip and bear-watching experience were both fun and informative. We were able to see at least eight different bears up close and also a family farther away. Also, trying Grandmother's palinka recipe was also very nice!
We were lucky to get the chance to book this experience on such short notice (2 days upfront). But I would recommend scheduling it earlier if possible since these kinds of experiences are in high demand.

You are driving aprox. 1h to the place. Then a small walk through the forrest and then waiting. There is a nearly 100% chance to see bears because they‘re hiding food in old wood etc. It was a really beautiful experience. The guide knew so much about bears and the environment. Dan N was fantastic! He made our trip to Romania the most memorable trip we’ve been on in a long time! I was a little worried since mostly tours get set up by my husband’s work. This time I booked it and then I bit my nails… it was more than fantastic!! Sooo worth the money! He KNOWS Romanian history with flair! He took us out of the way and showed us the most majestic views, and a private tour of an historic church, with the church’s caretaker accompanying us. Plus the extensive history of the church, the villages and we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. We think Romania/Brasov is the undiscovered treasure of Europe. Most people go to Brasov, Romania, to see that beautiful medieval town and to take the short trip to the castle that inspired the Dracula story; but only an hour away is the wonderful Piatra Craiului National Park which offers great hiking at all levels. I was privileged to be guided on the demanding hike up to and then along the famous razorback ridge of the park's mountain range by Bogdan, who picked me up in Brasov and filled me in, with his perfect English, on Romanian history on the drive to the trailhead. The walk began in an amazing limestone canyon. Then we ascended through serene old-growth forests. Towards the ridge, the trail got steeper; but the view even from the saddle where the main ridge begins was well worth it. From there it got a bit hairier, with cables to hold onto to get up steep pitches; but Bogdan had just the right advice at each step. The reward of getting up this difficult trail to the summit was tremendous. I greatly appreciated Bodgan's constant attention to safety: some rain was approaching, and he rightly adjusted the plan with that in mind. He was an affable, informative, and confidence-inducing companion. Highly recommended for adventurous hikers!!

Peles Castle was has the most intricately decorated castle I have ever seen. The story of Bran castle was quite interesting as well. Our guide, Charlie is very funny and helpful. We had the tour of Bran & Peles Castle as well as Rasnov Fortress, plus stopping in for lunch at a restaurant local to Bran Castle.
The tour was great, our guide Karoly (Charlie) had expert knowledge on any question we had, not limited just to the history of the castles either! It was a really interesting day, we learned so much about Romanian history and culture. Each castle was fascinating in its own way, with a different story behind each, paired with the amazing scenery that each had to offer, that alone was money well spent.
Our guide, Karoly, was a really lovely guy, good fun and made us laugh a lot. He also had some great recommendations about places to visit in Brasov as well, which were much appreciated. He has also arranged for us to go to a lovely restaurant close to Bran castle, where we had some delicious Romanian food. We had a really great time with him and were sad to see the day end, I think we were out for the best part of 9/10 hours.
We'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about the area and it's history. We'd never done anything like this before but will definitely be doing it again, if we're in Brașov again well absolutely be using Karoly again!

I a'm a solo femail traveler, and I booked a privet tour to the villages. The service were excellent!! Supper nice guide, gave me lots of information about Romania, its culture, history and nature.
Thanks to them I had a lovely experience, and the guide adjusted the rote to my preferences so I could also walk in the incredible nature and visit the village.
Marian, the guide was very kind, thoughtful and interesting! He also provided me with a walking sticks that were very helpful.

The guided tour was a great experience. Our guide Tiberiu was very friendly, funny and helpful. We managed to see a lot in a single day. Both castles and the fortress were stunning and Tiberiu's commentary enhanced the whole experience. The tour was really good. Our guide, Charlie, was really nice from the beginning, arriving on time to the departure point, and even taking detours to show us some nice places in between the ones selected.by default for the tour. Besides that, he knows his drill and the history of Romania, so he was able to explain to us everything that we were seeing since we started the tour: origins of the names of several places, historical and geographical details about towns, regions, and a brief but really complete overview of the Romanian history from the places that we visited.

I did the tour to Bran Castle, Rasnov Fortress and Peles Castle in July 2022. Everything has worked perfectly and our guide Karoly (Charlie) made the day incredible.
Charlie is an awesome guide with fantastische English skills, lots of historical knowledge, not only about the castles, but also the whole Brasov region, literature/films and Romania.
He always tried to make the tour as comfortable as possible for the three participants and planned the tour in a way we would avoid traffic jams and crowds.
Charlie always made suggestion about different options such as what parts of a castle to visit or having a picknick at Bran Castle’s Park instead of eating in a restaurant. We also had options wich parts of a castle we wanted to visit and make the tour individual.
He also knows where the best photospots and hidden gems of the castles are.
We always had time to take pictures or to buy some water or souvenir.
As it was a super hot day, he also took care of the temperature in the car and offenered sun protection.
I would totally recommend to do the tour with him to other travellers!

En fantastisk halvdag (vi valde att inte åka till Peles Castle) med vår kunnige guide Tiberiu. Han hämtade oss med bil på morgonen i Brasov och körde oss till Bran Castle och Rasnov Fortress. Han berättade och svarade på frågor om allt, verkligen allt, som hade med de besökta platserna att göra, men också om allmän historia, geografi och mycket annat. Han såg också till att på ett smidigt sätt ta oss förbi de stora turisthorderna. Efter turen blev vi avsläppta centralt I Brasov.
En mycket givande upplevelse som definitivt är värd pengarna.

A fun day out exploring the 3 castles around Brasov. I'm not a massive history buff but found the tour very interesting and easy to follow. The trip also included the entrance fees which meant we could bypass the long queues waiting as well.
Could not have asked for a better tour guide in Charlie - incredible understanding of the history and tailored it to all of us on the tour, not to mention a great sense of humour. We bumped into another group lead by Tiberius doing the same tour and for part of it they worked together taking both groups around the same part of the castle. I don't think the trip would have been anywhere near as good or enjoyable without those guys. I would 100% book through these guys again.

A great guide, Tiberius, passionate about nature and ecology who explained a lot ahead of arriving in the hide, where we sat quietly for over a couple of hours, during which two, skittish bears showed up five times, but always executing a hit and run action in the food, so there was barely time to photograph them.
You were sufficiently close to get a great view, but far enough away to feel completely safe. Just spending time still, watching and listening was such a welcome change from normal life.

A beautiful days’ walking with Bogdan. An entertaining and politically savvy guide, who took us for a beautiful walk through the limestone Zarnesti gorge up to the Curmatura Cabana in the Piatra Craiului National Park.
On a hot day it was great to walk mainly through woods, but also through a couple of beautiful Alpine meadows. We were more comfortable doing that than going all the way to the spectacular ridge.
We booked this as a private tour for two of us. We started by discussing the type of walk and giving him a sense of our fitness. In the end we walked 12.5 km, with 2 1/2 up and 2 hours down, with more than an hour chilling at the cabana for an alpine lunch. He picked us up and dropped us back in the centre of Brasov.
The real plus point above and beyond the walk is that Bogdan is passionate about history and contemporary politics so that we learned so much about Romania’s past, present and future.

I booked the tour online and was contacted by Marian from Active Travel well in advance with details about the tour departure. Our guide picked us up on time, we were a total of six people plus the guide. We drove about an hour. Before walking to the watching spot, we were told what to expect and instructed how to behave when moving through the forest.
We were lucky to see several bears. Our guide competently answered all our questions about brown bears in Romania.
I recommend this tour to everyone who loves nature and who likes watching animals in their natural habitat.

The ‘7 scari’ canyon itself is a bit more difficult, but good fun! Gorgeous views from the top of the mountain and silent sunny green forest trails. I would recommend this trip even to the less experienced hikers.

I took the small group day tour to Bran Castle, Peles Castle and Rasnov Fortress from Brasov with Adventure-tours.ro
I choose the group tour for the opportunity to meet other travelers but they also had private tours available. There were 5 passages in a large minivan with 8 seats. I am 2 meters tall and fit very comfortably.
My guide was Charlie, a very personable, easy going guide. I was a tour guide for 12 years in California, and was impressed. We never felt rushed and always had time for a coffee or WC break. I could tell there were different ways of opperating the trip, he would ask us if anyone was sensitive to curvy roads, we were not so we took more scenic roads in the mountains, avoiding town traffic, gaving us the opportunity to look for bears and wildlife along the way.
One of the best parts is skipping the ticket lines. Our driver was licenced to guide in all the locations, so we walked past the long ticket lines right to the entry and our driver personally guided us at each location. This saved a lot of time. He also knew some good photo locations and angles.
Charlie also picked a nice restaurant for lunch with a direct view of Bran Castle. He suggested local dishes and deserts. The restaurant's owner sent us all a complimentary local liqueur which was interesting to try.
My booking was very last minute, contacting themp the evening before after problems with another private company in Brasov that tried to raise the price 3 times after booking. Glad I found a more honest company that I had a great day trip with. I contacted them directly, so they were able to take me short notice.

Picked up in braşov and went into the forest, after one hour the first bear, and for the next 2h we saw 4 countinuosly give eachother change to eat.
Not the best for photography cause there was not the hole for the camera, but surely the best to see them.
Well informed guide will you know everything about bears.
I can reccomend it to every wildlife lover.

The highlight was our tour guide, Charlie. My tour had only three people, myself from Chicago and two Englishmen. Charlie was charming in a low-key way, spoke fluent English, was informed about the castles we visited and didn't try to oversell what we were seeing. He had stories to tell about working on cruise ships, and had been to the same obscure Caribbean island that I'd been to on my honeymoon. A great pleasure of a day.

I would highly recommend this tour! We have learned that tours are the way to go. It is so much more efficient than our family bumbling around trying to figure out where to go. You do not want to go to Bran Castle on your own - it is so busy!!!!!
There were nine of us including three ids and we had Charlie and TB as our guides and they both brought something unique to the table. They are both clearly passionate and knowledgable about history. We finished the day with a traditional Romanian meal at a ski resort that was out of this world! I would highly recommend!!!!

I loved this tour and our guide, you get to see the bears, not very close, but close enough to really get a sense of them in their natural living space. I would recommend, but, if I would have one advice, is to have a smaller group and be more strict in being silent. Our 14 people group had laughing, phones ringing and soo much coughing, i believe we missed a lot from that. We still got to see 4 bears, I saw one really close from the back door even, and there was one deer, so all still 5 stars.

I did the tour with all three sites. It was great! Super interesting! Our guide Charlie was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout.

"Dan" ist sehr engagiert, aufgestellt und weiss praktisch zu jedem Thema auch ausserhalb der Tourziele etwas zu erzählen und lässt einem Zeit die Dinge zu betrachten.
Ich lernte sehr viel über die Lokale wie auch die Landesgeschichte.
Seine empfehlungen für weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten oder einem Restaurant um nach der Tour zu speisen waren perfekt für mich.
Ich fühlte mich jederzeit Unterhalten und umsorgt. Konnte aber auch mal verweilen wenn ich lust hatte.
Abholung so wie Ausstieg war praktisch frei wählbar.
P.S. Wenn jemand auf Biken steht hat "Dan" vermutlich auch sehr gute Tipps wo man in der Natur gute Strecken findet.

We loved this experience of driving out to the forests and sitting in a small hide to watch brown bears coming down to eat some fruits left nearby. It was a natural encounter enriched by the obvious passion, care and knowledge of the local guides. They obviously care for the habitat, wildlife and conservation of this and were keen, informative and wanting to share their expertise with us. They were also very funny! We thought this was a good value trip - we went with a small group and the whole thing was very well organised with clear communication before and during it. We were lucky to see 4 different bears which was a breathtaking experience - a wonderful evening to remember.

Dan was an amazing tour guide with a great deal of historical knowledge. He got us through all of the lines super quickly and was very accommodating for all of our needs. We met Tibiriu outside our hotel in the morning where he picked us and our luggage up. We then made our way to the canyon site, and he explained what to expect on the way. There is a small walk up to the canyon through the forested mountains in Brasov. The scenery is breathtaking, with plenty of opportunities to take photos during this time. Tibiriu took a lot of photos and shared them with us, whilst talking about the local culture. The canyon itself is simply awesome. You walk along an elevated walkway, attached to the side of the canyon with water flowing down the canyon below. The sound and atmosphere is really something you have to experience and I am really glad we did it. After completing the walk we returned back down the mountain-side to the car where we then continued with an additional tour (See review regarding the fortified churches).

Tibiriu was the perfect tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, accommodating our luggage during the tour whilst explaining the culture and answering all of our questions. He was very charismatic and funny too, making the trip all the more fun!

I highly recommend this trip to anyone who is or interested in visiting Brasov. Brasov itself is one of the best cities in Romania and is definitely somewhere you should go when visiting Romania. This has been by far one of the best tours I have ever done.

It’s amazing experience to some moderate hike to speculator view of the 2 village and the terrain. My brother and I visited Transylvania primarily on a hiking trip, but also wanted to explore some of the historical sites. This tour was an excellent way to discover some of the unique history of the Transylvanian highlands and see the Feldiora fortress, Viscri, Sighișoara, and the Rupea fortress. Our guide Dan was knowledgeable, entertaining, and had great tunes on the drive. We both really appreciated having someone to show us around the country and learning about both historic Transylvania and its contemporary history. We also loved the impromptu mini-concert Dan put on with a busker by the covered walkway of Sighișoara. There was a lot to see, but we never felt rushed at any point. Overall an amazing experience! I really enjoyed this tour. Driving on the Transfagarasan Road was an incredible and unique experience.
The rugged beauty of the Fagaras mountains is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The views from the peaks and along the ridges are incredible. The hike up was equally amazing - I really enjoyed the bits of climbing we did and navigating the tricky terrain.
Mihai was an excellent guide - he is like a walking encyclopaedia of the local area - and is very passionate about sharing his knowledge.
I would definitely recommend doing this tour! It was unreal.

I really enjoyed this tour! Kartsi was our guide and he was great. Going to Peles castle with a guide was truly an advantage as we had priority over the other visitors. Bran castle was also very nice. The guided tour makes it much more interesting. 100% would recommend. Rasnov Fortress was closed but the panorama was nice and you can take a funicular up the hill which was a nice experience!

This hike was very nice! We had Kartsi as a private guide that day. He drove us to the entrance of the park and we continued by foot. Amazing place!. It had rained the day before so it was a bit slippery. Take your time and have good shoes, especially on the way down the forest.

Had a great time with Karoly (Charlie) to Rasnov Fortress and Bran Castle. He was very knowledgeable and just generally fun to talk to. It was just me on the tour (apparently Mondays are slow days for the tourist areas). We were the first ones in the castle. Wow! What a day. If I had to define it in one word, it would be 'heaven'. Marian is amazing! From start to finish, he was the best and was so patient with me. Firstly I would like to note that being a solo traveller didn't mean I had to pay double the price which already was a positive. The booking procedure was straight forward and Marian answered any questions I had promptly. The mountains are as beautiful as the look (if not more) than the pictures, the climb up was spectacular. The fact the we couldn't hear anything other than the birds was fab! Marian is very knowledgable of the wildlife, flora and of course mushrooms :) The hut were we stopped for lunch had the most amazing views. You also get to meet the resident dogs and cats whilst sipping away on a delicious home made soup (vegiterrean option available). After lunch and a beer (for me), we started our way down. I found it harder going down but thankfully Marian had lent me walking sticks which made it so much easier. All I can say is, go for it! I would definitely recommend this hike. Excellent day all round. Bran castle was my favourite because of the narrow passageways, courtyard, and obviously all the mystique and history around it. However Peles was best from a grandeur point of view. Some stunning rooms there, and the external view is really impressive. Rasnov Fortress good too but maybe the lesser of the three. Was worth inclusion though as it’s very different to the others. The guide, Tiberiu, was excellent too, very knowledgeable, efficient, and also funny. A great day all round

El guía Mihai fue fantástico, tenía mucha experiencia en hiking y le apasionaba la naturaleza. Es una ruta de nivel medio y en la descripción o no lo ponía o no lo supimos ver pero la segunda parte del trayecto no la hicimos, era demasiado para nosotros. A cambio, fuímos a un pueblo de Valaquia con vistas espectaculares y nos explicó muchas cosas sobre la zona, costumbres, cultura etc. Fue un gran día, recomendable 100%. (Ah! Had a lovely day out with Charlie. Our first stop was at the small village of Viscri, where we wondered around the village and sat on a bench over looking the Fortified church. From there we went to Sighishora. A lovely little town/village full of culture and history. Charlie is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. We visited the house of Dracula, had coffee in the square and visited the cemetery with the amazing views. Our next and last stop was to Sibiu - a larger more vibrant town. We spent most of our time in the old town, wandering the streets, looking at all the historical buildings. Definitely worth visiting all 3 places which are packed with history and culture. As a solo traveler, I felt very relaxed with Charlie. The booking process with Active Travel was very easy and I didn't need to pay double the per person price even though I was alone. I recommend this trip from start to finish.

We had an absolutely fantastic day on the tour, and that was mostly down to our tour guide Charlie (Andras). He was extremely knowledgeable- there wasn't a question he didn't know the answer to and we found out so much about the road / area / Romania in general. He was also very friendly, chatty, funny and very polite. The scenery was beautiful and he knew the best stops to get great photos whilst there being fewer people. It felt like we were with a friend from the start. Highly recommend.
Finally, he dropped us off at his ice cream shop recommendation at the end - it was some of the best ice cream we have ever had, so thank you! (Gelato Mania - buffalo milk ice cream!)

The communication from the tour operator was brilliant. The tour was well organised and the hut where you watch the bears is in a great location. We saw 3 bears which was brilliant! They didn’t stay for long and we had to wait a while for them but it was worth the wait!
The only thing that could have made the tour better for us was some more interaction and information from the guide. We were given no information about the bears and their habitat prior to arriving to watch the bears. While watching the bears we were given some information by a different guide but some more information about the bears and their habitat would have been nice.

I booked this tour while staying in Brasov. Marian was very good at keeping in touch and updating me with meeting times and places. As for the tour itself, we were picked up by Alex and driven to a national park where there was a short walk to the hide. It took a while but we were finally rewarded for our patience by seeing a huge male come out of the woods and feed on some of the bushes nearby. It was incredible to witness such a sight up close. While you have to stay quiet in the hide, I found Alex very informative and he answered my many questions. He clearly has great fondness for his job, so a big thumbs up must go to him. If you happen to be in Brasov and like nature, give this a go, it's worth every penny.

I had a thoroughly excellent tour of Peles Castle, Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress (exterior - the interior is under restoration). Our guide, Tiberius was very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm shone through during the tours of Bran and Peles Castles. It would be possible to visit these castles separately - if you have the time! Also as part of a small group, we were able to avoid the long queues. The length of the tour is a bit longer than advertised as road traffic can be heavy in places. A great day out.

We so very much enjoyed our tour/ hike at 7 Ladders Canyon with Charlie! We would absolutely do it again and are planning to book another tour directly through this agency the next time we're in Brașov (rather than through Vlator or Trlp Advlser) because they have good prices and are an excellent, trusted tour operator here in the Brașov area (we just don't feel the need to use a 3rdparty company for the booking in the future).
Charlie made the experience special. It was a great time. We look forward to trying their other tours!

The hiking trail was challenging and a lot of fun to go through. Our tour guide, Bogdan was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, from his experience in hiking to historical anecdotes about the area. He was also very accommodating to make the hike best fit for us as he managed to scale the trip to our physical capabilities. Definitely a memory to remember!

This was the best tour! Our tour guide specifically made it a joy. Charlie was very insightful, answered every question we had, while also being hilarious in the process. We made many stops along the way, some for picture opportunities, and some just because we as a group wanted to. It was the perfect balance of being guided and held on track while also allowing us a bit of freedom. If you’re ever in the area this tour is the best one!

The tour was well organized. The tour guide was on time, very efficient, knowledgeable, and flexible. He went out of his way to make everybody on the tour comfortable and welcome, including my elderly mother-in-law.
The only complaint is that the Rasnov Fortress tour was somewhat false advertising, since the fortress is currently closed and cannot be visited.

We booked the tour a day in advance and everything proceeded smoothly, as described online. Pacing was great and route was optimized so we could get back in time for our train. We really enjoyed the time, effort and information our tour guide offered for keeping the conversation lively and the hike fun and we were plesantly surprised to find out how well versed he was in mountains across the country. I will definitely book new tours with him in other locations.

The whole experience was flawless. The guide (Tiberius) picked us up in front of the hotel 8:30 sharp. At the Peles castle, he organized everything so that we didn't have to wait in the queue. He knew a lot about the castle and walked us through all its immense and extensively decorated rooms. He also told us details that were not obvius and cool curiosities.
At Bran Castle he literally gave us a history lesson before walking in, which gave us all the context we needed to understand the tour. He also took great photos of us.
Before going to the Rasnov fortress he suggested that we stopped to have typical romenian food at a shop near the parking lot and it was delicious! He tried all the time to give us the best possible experience. I highly recommend booking the tour and the agency.

Amazing hike in the Fagaras mountains!

We had an absolutely brilliant time hiking in the Fagaras mountains! Our guide Bogdan was fantastic, picked us up and drove us there. He was very experienced and made sure to show us all the best sights.
The hike was spectacular-starting with luscious forests, then into huge snow-covered valleys, climbing to an incredible view of Lake Balea. Finish by descending into Lake Balea for a drink at the hut, and taking the cable car down (getting stunning views of the transfagarasan route and waterfall).
The whole day was about 10 hours (pick up at 8, couple hours driving, then hiking for 5 hours with couple breaks, and time at end for drink/cable car, then drive back).
One thing to note: We went in early October and by that point there was snow on the mountains. We didn’t quite expect that (we thought there would be no snow yet). It was fine, we had hiking boots, the weather was lovely, and our guide Bogdan provided us with suitable equipment and expertise to guide us hiking through snow but I’d say keep that in mind and make sure to wear suitable clothing! It is worth it for the view and amazing photos!

We had a superb guide, Balazs Karoly Andras who was not only knowledgeable but also had a good sense of humour. This was great as being in holiday season we had big queues to get into both Peles and Bran.

The Bran Castle providing a fascinating look at the real history of Transylvania as well as the mythology of Count Dracula related to the castle. The Rasnov Fortress was also interesting, and the drive from Brasov was very scenic. The guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable and gave us a comprehensive understanding of the history of Romania and much about today's Romania. Highly recommended. Peles Castle was closed the day of our visit, so we did not see it.

We had such a wonderful day with Charlie, our guide, who was so friendly, knowledgeable, patient helpful and really a delight to be with. We were lucky that our tour was on Friday so Charlie offered to take us first to a market in Rupea. We got to see an authentic, non-touristy market. From there, we went to the Rupea Fortress which was very interesting and offered beautiful views. Then we drove to the Viscri village - visited the church and Charlie took us to a house of one of the villagers. From there, we drove to the picturesque and beautiful Sighisoara town. I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide and a better tour. All was perfect and well worth the money.

One of the best experiences in Romania. We were warned beforehand that it was possible not to see any bears, being wild. But we were able to see 2 and a fox even though it was fall. The guide was super attentive and safe. I recommend this tour to everyone.

It was an amazing day! The drivers and vehicles arrived on time and were quickly able to fix a misunderstanding on a booking (thanks Charlie and Dan!). The vehicles were comfortable and clean. Our guide, Dan, was just great. His knowledge of history, of the places we visited and saw along the way, was extensive and interesting. He could answer any question and told us a lot about Romanian life and recent history as well. He went out of his way to make sure we had coffee, toilet stops and tastes of some traditional pastries. The scenery was spectacular. Everything was well organised and on time. We would do this again, and additional tours as well, if we every come back to this gorgeous part of the world!

Brilliant tour. We visited Peles Castle first and we as able to avoid most of the queues. Our Tour Guide, Tibi, was really knowledgeable about the castle and the history connected to it. We had a drink there and then onto Bran Castle stopping at a local bakery/fast food place for a quick snack (we'd been delayed by traffic). Finally we finished at Rasnov Fortress. Tibi was great tbroughout, knew all the locals so we were served quickly and gained fast entry to the castles.

Tiberiu was our guide today 31st October 2022, weather was great which was a bonus, Tiberiu was very informative and helpful, Fortress was closed inside due to renovation but good experience to see, even outside.

We had an amazing day today with our guide Marian. He tailored the hike to suit our fitness level and this allowed us to go off the beaten track and climb some challenging rock formations. The views throughout the day were incredible! Marian was extremely informative sharing stories and information about the geology, wildlife and history of the area. This has been the highlight of our holiday to Romania and we recommend it highly. We are already looking forward to our next trip to Romania and hiking more of the Carpathians with Marians tour company.

This tour was a great addition to my trip to Brasov. I went on this tour as a solo traveler and my tour guide (Tibi) was great company and always ready to answer my questions. He's been doing this tour for a while and knows a lot of the locals in the areas that are visited on the tour so I had the opportunity for spending with them, trying their delicious bread, and getting a tour of the church.

Okay, I must admit that the weather played a major role on this particular trip as Transfagarasan usually shuts from November 1 if it snows...I was lucky it did not and on 9th November 2022, it was shining as bright as any summer day.
What made my day trip even more special was my guide Charlie who is really knowledgable and a genuinely friendly and caring person. We did the entire circuit and he left no stone unturned to help me make the most out of the day. We stopped as many times i wanted for photos and videos and he even suggested we take the longer route and do the entire circuit in search of brown bears in the forest. At no point, it felt like i was with a stranger in a car but with a friend who genuinely wanted to share the beauty and the wonders of his country with me.
The highlight of our trip was that we did see a baby brown bear, right next to our car. I was on top of the world and happy to go back with so many beautiful memories.
Thank you Charlie for making my day so special. And like i promised, i will come back once more during summers along with my wife and would like to book the same trip to get a different experience of Transfagarsanian summers.

I was part of a small tour group from Brasov with 3 other people. We did the Bran Castle and the Rasnov Fortress and sadly could not visit the Peles castle as it's closed on Tuesdays during winters.
Even though before booking the trip, i was considering to visit these places on my own with public transport or with a taxi but i am glad i did not. Charlie is a very knowledgable guide and he knows a lot about historical facts, legends and is also a brilliant storyteller and with his detailed descr112ions and stories, he put life into these old buildings and ruins.
As a matter of fact, we came across a young and lost Romanian who drove on his own to Bran and was willing to pay our guide cash to make him part of our group, which of course Charlie had to refuse.
Charlie also knows the best spots to take nice pictures of the Bran castle. He also drove us to a secret vantage point to get the best view of the castle.
Lastly as a surprise, Charlie also took us to an old, fortified church in Rasnov to make up for the missed opportunity of Peles, even though it wasn't his fault that we couldn't visit.
I would highly recommend this tour. You'd get to see a lot and learn a lot about local history from someone who is a local.

"We had a really nice day with Mihai! His knowledge of the history and nature of the country is rich and educational. He is very friendly, detailed, and lighthearted.
Our hike through the gorge was gorgeous and exiting. We recommend, however, to hike in October or early November as we were unlucky with the weather to do a bigger hike. Overall, he made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Totally recommend!"

"We had a wonderful time visiting the 3 castles on this tour, and our guide, Balazs, was incredibly friendly, fun and knowledgeable. It couldn't have seemed like a very long day, but the Peles castle was our favourite of the day, so we are so glad we included it, and Balazs made sure we had plenty of stops for food and bathrooms along the way and kept us upbeat and entertained. As there was only 5 of us on the tour we got a very personal experience, and were very pleased when we skipped lines and could see large tour groups going past. It was a wonderful day"

"My husband and I had a stress free and fun day with Charlie. There were five of us in total in the tour, Which feels inclusive compare to the big group tour. He is great! I love how he knows how and when to get ahead of the crowds! Definitely make the day significantly better. He knows the best picture spot before the crowds get there. He also helps us order food. "First of all, our guide Dan, was very kind, friendly and had lots of information to share about the sites we visited. The pick up was on time, they contacted us from the previous night to ensure we understood where to meet and when. Dan arrived full of energy and we spend the day seeing all three castles and a fortress, having a great time. All three are beautiful structures but Peles castle is one you shouldn't miss! All in all, it was a wonderful experience and Dan is the best guide I ever had. 1000% recommend."
