DESCRIPTION & FEATURES OF THE TREKKING TOUR

WOW....this is "the trekking" tour of Romania: exploring the most beautiful and impressive mountains in Romania! "The Best Program Forever" - Bucegi, Piatra Craiului and Fagaras. We hike in Bucegi Natural Park, a mountain which has some interesting legends, we reach on the highest peak of it - Omu (2505 m) - and than we descent to Bran village, the location of Bran Castle a.k.a Dracula's Castle. We trek in one of the most beautiful mountain of Carpathians - Piatra Craiului National Park - crossing authentic mountain villages, depending of the weather and you we climb the highest peak of the National Park (2238), we cross very nice gorges. And finally we hike on the top of Romania - Moldoveanu Peak (2544 m) - from the Fagaras mountains....in two words AUTHENTIC ADVENTURE!

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest. Transfer to Busteni town (120 km, about 2 hours driving). Accommodation at a 3* hotel. Traditional Romanian Dinner.

Day 2: Breakfast. We take the cable car on the top of Bucegi Natural Park and we start our adventure: we pass by the Carpathian Sphinx, "Babele" rock formation and we walk on the main plateau about 3 hours to the Omu Peak. From here we descent on the biggest glacial valley of Romania - Gaura Valley - to Bran village area. Accommodation in Bran area at a 3* guesthouse. Lunch to go. Dinner. Duration 8 – 9 hours, medium to hard, uphill 300 m / downhill 1700 m.

Day 3: Breakfast. We trek today in Piatra Craiului National Park. We make a stop to an authentic sheep farm for a "special" lunch (from June to September), we cross the authentic mountain villages from the bottom of the mountains, we cross very nice gorges OR, depending of the weather and you, we climb the highest peak of the National Park (2238). Accommodation in Bran area at a 3* guesthouse. Lunch to go. Dinner. Duration 7 – 9 hours, medium or medium to hard (depending of the route we choose), uphill 1200 m / downhill 1200 m.

Day 4: Breakfast. In the morning we visit Bran Castle (Monday is opened from 12:00). Transfer to Balea Lake in Fagaras mountains (150 km, about 3 hours driving). On our way we visit Balea waterfall. Accommodation at Balea Chalet in double room, private facilities. Free time. Lunch to go. Dinner. Here is the emblematic Balea Lake (4.6 ha, altitude 2034 m) located in the heart of Fagaras Mountains.
Transfagarasan road - built as a strategic military route, it is the highest (2042m) and most dramatic paved road in Romania. It runs North to South across the highest sections of the Carpathian Mountains. The road connects the historic regions of Transylvania and Wallachia.

Balea Lac - a natural glacier lake at 2040m, 360 meters long, 240 meters wide and 11 meters deep
Balea Waterfall - with its 60 meters height it is one of the most famous waterfalls in Romania

Day 5: Breakfast. Balea Lake Chalet – Podragu Chalet (2136 m), on the main ridge of Fagaras Mountains. Lunch to go. Duration: 5-6 hours, medium to hard, nice landscape, uphill/downhill walk: 1.100 m/1.000 m. Accommodation at chalet in a room with 12-20 beds: toilets on the hall, cold water, no showers available. It is a basic mountain hut. Dinner. The current Podragu cottage was built in the years 1948-1949 by the National Bank of Romania for its employees, being opened in 1950. Currently it is used as tourist cottage.

Day 6: Breakfast. Podragu Chalet – Moldoveanu Peak and return. We climb the highest peak of the Romanian Carpathians, Moldoveanu Peak (2545 m) as well as Vistea Mare Peak, the third highest peak of Romania. Lunch to go. Duration: 6-7 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 500 m. Accommodation at chalet. Dinner.

Day 7: Breakfast. Podragu Chalet – Podragu Valley – Victoria town. Lunch to go. Duration: 5-7 hours, downhill walk: 1400 m. Transfer to Bucharest (about 350 km). Accommodation. City tours by night. Dinner. Known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, glorious Belle Époque buildings and a reputation for the high life (which in the 1900s earned its nickname of "Little Paris"), Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, is today a bustling metropolis.

Day 8: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

Details about trekking tour:
- optimal time: July - October
- mountain tour requires a good physical shape, with resistance to medium to hard effort but for long duration
- note that you should personally carry your baggage from day 5 to day 7 (of course you can leave some luggage in the car on day 4)
- accommodation is done in mountain chalets and boarding houses
- licensed mountain guide during the entire trekking tour
- the route could be changed because of the weather conditions
- dead line for booking with 20 days before the trip starts
- Compulsory equipment: waterproof hiking boots and clothes; warm clothes.
