We travel by train from Brasov to Sinaia about 1 hour. From here we walk about 40 minutes (2 km) to Peles Castle. Sinaia is situated in the Carpathian Mountains, at the foothills of the Bucegi Mountains. Sinaia is known for its beautiful scenery, fresh air, and numerous tourist attractions. One of the main attractions of Sinaia is the Peleș Castle, which was built in the late 19th century as a summer residence for the Romanian royal family. The castle is a stunning example of neo-Renaissance architecture and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and forests. Sinaia is also a popular destination for skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities, thanks to its location in the mountains. The town has several ski resorts, including the Sinaia Ski Resort and the Azuga Ski Resort.
Visiting Peles Castle is almost like being inside an art work itself, every step we take inside we get mesmerized by every small detail, the different carvings, paintings and furniture piece competing with well known castles and palaces around the world. Peles is Europe's first electrified castle with all modern utilities including central heating, running hot and cold water, central vacuum cleaner, an electrical elevator and much more already from the beginning of the 20th century.
From Peles Castle we walk about 20 minutes (1.5 km) to visit Sinaia Monastery founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai in Egypt. As of 2005, it is inhabited by 13 Christian Orthodox monks led by hegumen Macarie Boguș. It is part of the Bucharest archdiocese. The Old Church was built in 1695. In 2006, it was closed to begin a restoration project to return it to its former beauty. The original interior painting was completed by Pârvu Mutu and were restored for the first time in 1795. The Old Church has reopened as of 2016. From here we can have a lunch break (up to 1 hour) and than we continue our carbon-free walking tour to Sinaia train station about 15 minutes. We take the train back to Brasov (1 hour).
